The Fair-Trade-Music-Network is a federation of special labels and music companies who are committed to Fair-Trade.
Fair-Trade usually is associated with coffe, but the music industry is in need of it, too. Because often you hear about dubious labels pulling a fast one on musicians and the industry is doing their bit for the bad reputation with excessive CD prices and non-playing CDs with copy protection. No wonder that musicfans turn away from the big record companies and try to find new music in niches as well as on the internet.
The companies who are affiliated to the Fair-Trade-Music-Network and the ones who will affiliate want to change this: They get committed to certain criteria that offer advantages for artists and listeners. Because the working together is better. Some of the most important criteria are:
- low prices for sound mediums
- artistic freedom
- fair payment of musicians
Criteria that have been neglected and abolished by the music industry over the last decades.
